The first phase of the Purple line consists of 16 stations and was opened for service in August 2016. This elevated line stretches 23 km from Khlong Bang Phai in the northwestern suburb of Bangkok to Tao Pun in the city center. The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) expects the route will serve an average of 200,000 daily passengers during the first year of operation, with the total gradually increasing to 400,000 by 2019.
The backbone for train and platform operations is provided by OTN Systems.
